About Me
Hello! I'm Kate, a Mathematics tutor in Plymouth UK. I've been a tutor since 2011 and have helped many students through their GCSE and A level exams.
I'm originally from Southampton and came to Plymouth in 1997 to study Mathematics at the University of Plymouth. I gained my BSc (Hons) in Mathematics in 2000 and qualified as a teacher in 2004. I then spent 6 years teaching at Lipson Community College (as it was then known), and I was Key Stage 5 Manager for 5 of those years. During this time I developed my passion for A level teaching in particular - I love the challenging and varied nature of A level work and helping students to unpick the questions that they are expected to solve.
I left teaching in 2011 in order to look after my two children full time, but started tutoring in the evenings as a way of keeping up with teaching. It grew from there, and although I intended to go back to teaching, I had so many tuition students that I eventually went full time. I now tutor GCSE in the evenings and after school (and a very small amount on weekends) and tutor for A level during the day, when they have free lessons.
As well as tuition, I also work as an A level examiner for several exam boards, which has given me a great insight into how exams are marked and what exam boards are looking for in their answers. This has been a huge help when tutoring, as I can guide students towards an answer that will gain maximum marks.
When I am not tutoring, I like to spend my time with my family, and I also love knitting and reading. I am also attempting to get back into running after a few years out. I have been known to do A level maths papers for fun, and my dream would be to return to university and study for my Masters degree - hopefully one day soon!
